Computer components

External parts is a broad term which refers to anything from your monitor to your headphones that connects to your system unit. These are all controlled and coordinated by your PCs CPU and provide an outlet for instructions or when your're accessing memory intensive things like your hard drive for example. Here is an example of a few pieces of hardware

Computer components

CPU's or Central Processing Units are where most of the calculations a computer makes are made and is housed inside a single chip called a microprocessor. Through working out these code it turns them into calculations and then instructions which it carries out. here is an image of one.

Hard drive

The Hard drives are pieces of hardware devices that are used to store data. One example of these is an Hard Disk Drive also known as an HDD for short here is an example of one

It works by sending data to and from the hard drive which is coordinated by something called by something called a disk controller which tells it what to do components to move and which components it needs to move inside itself.

RAM

RAM is an acronym for Random Access Memory which is a type of memory that can be accessed randomly. They look something like this
There are two different types of RAM on called DRAM which stands for Dynamic Random Access Memory and SRAM or Static Random Access Memory the difference between the two being that DRAM is slower than SRAM as DRAM is always needing to be refreshed whereas SRAM doesn't allowing it to be faster
